Kaffebox – May 18 Box Preview: Koppi

Now it’s finally time for the next KaffeBox, the reason why it’s taken such a long time is that of Postnord (Swedish postal service) requires a declaration cost from the recipient and an added 21 days of delivery time. Just because Norway (KaffeBox is Norwegian) hasn’t joined the EU. I have to add that it’s very strange Sweden has no exception to our neighbors.

This will be the fifth time for KaffeBoxyou can read the most previous post here. This month, the coffee comes from the Swedish Helsingborg roastery, Koppi. This week we will review two varieties of Colombian coffee.

As usual, I start with an informative text about the coffee:

Koppi, Helsingborg, Sweden.

1) Colombia Los Alpes
Personal cupping and recipe

Origin: Colombia
Variety:  Caturra
Farm: Mario Lucara Aldana
Region: San Augustin, Tolima
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 900 – 2 000 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Ripe berries, apple & floral.

Expectation: Every detail gives the feeling of a coffee with fresh flavor, it certainly fits well to be brewed as a cold brew and is probably a coffee that you can drink every day. I expect a really good coffee with kind tones.

2) Colombia Finca La Ensillada
Personal cupping and recipe

Origin: Colombia
Variety: Variedad Colombia
Farm: Nancy Dias
Region: Tarqui, Huila
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 900 meters above sea level.

Cupping notes:
Grapes, floral & lively acidity.

Expectation: This reminds me a lot of Etnias – Montañita, a floral coffee with wonderful tones. It also comes from Huila. I expect a coffee similar to Montañita and really hope so, the description makes me believe that this will be a great hit!

Conclusion: I think this may be the most personal KaffeBox I reviewed. The reason why it’s so personal is that I drank a coffee from the same coffee roastery more than 10 years ago. The coffee came from Kenya and was called Gatina, that coffee is the best coffee I’ve ever tried in my whole life, that coffee is what my 10/10 scale based on.

A bit of information about Gatina coffee. An incredible coffee with delicious acid, it was so acidic that the water I drank afterward was so amazing. The coffee that had bounced inside my mouth gave the water a whole new level and that water was so thirsty as well. It’s for me the best coffee I drank … Enough about the lovely Gatina coffee.

Koppi is guaranteed to be one of the larger roasteries in Sweden, but they also have some negative stuff in their baggage of course, and that is they are a little harder to get. Either it is Koppi’s own webshop or if you’re lucky enough to get them via KaffeBox. For example, a coffee enthusiast who may want to mix roasteries does not find them at http://www.baristashopen.se/. Baristashopen.se is the best way to get home coffee beans if you want to choose instead of a lovely mystery box like the KaffeBox.

That’s why I’m very grateful to KaffeBox, it’s truly an incredible service that sends the best Scandinavian coffee home to you.

Koppi has a slim packaging with a  new style of opening at the top that begins to be the industry standard for coffee bags, which I am very grateful for.  It’s very good if you’re in nature and should open a sealed bag and don’t want too much hassle. My expectations are sky high, I’m really looking forward to trying it out!
