Now it’s finally time for the next KaffeBox, the reason why it’s taken such a long time is that of Postnord (Swedish postal service) requires a declaration cost from the recipient and an added 21 days of delivery time. Just because Norway (KaffeBox is Norwegian) hasn’t joined the EU. I have to add that it’s very strange Sweden has no exception to our neighbors.
This will be the eighth time for KaffeBox, you can read the most previous post here. This month we will go back in time because Postnord kept the coffee for a month and I got it later (now). The greatest of thanks to KaffeBox who sent it back after getting it back home to Norway. So much love to you!!
The coffee comes from the Norwegian Oslo roastery Nord Brenneri. This week we will review one coffee from Ethiopia and one from Colombia.
As usual, I start with an informative text about the coffee:
Nord Brenneri, Oslo, Norge.
1) Etiopien Hunda Oli
Personal cupping and recipe will be published 2018-10-14
Origin: Ethiopien
Variety: Heirloom
Farm: Hunda Oli Cooperative
Region: Goma
Process: Washed
Altitude: 2 025 – 2 200 meters above sea level.
Cupping notes:
A floral and juicy coffee with flavors of sweet citrus and fresh herbs. Aroma of jasmine and raspberries.
Expectation:
I think this will be a typical Ethiopian, it has that rich berry taste with a sweet citrus finish. I think that this will be great because it’s what I’m searching for at this moment.
2) Colombia La Palma y El Tucan
Personal cupping and recipe will be published 2018-09-22
Origin: Colombia
Variety: –
Farm: Doña Nubia Sanchez
Region: La Palma y El Tucan
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 750 meters above sea level.
Cupping notes:
A juicy and complex coffee with flavors of tropical fruits and blackberries. Intense aromas of ripe red berries and pineapple.
Expectation: It sounds like this coffee will be the future of Colombia, and unfortunately it’s something negative. I don’t like that Colombian coffee almost copy the taste profile of typical African coffee, and of course this shouldn’t be misunderstood, so I will explain further. I like the option to choose from classic Colombian and classic Ethiopian, that’s kind of the charm, but if they taste the same, yes .. Then the charm will be ruined. On the other hand, I think this coffee is good, I just needed a soft rant.
Conclusion: I’m getting a great feeling this month, regardless of the fact that Colombia’s coffee does not have that sweet chocolate note with a nice nutty flavor, I still think these two coffees will be good. It does not mean that it’s worse in any way, just that I’m afraid of losing the classic Colombia.
As usual, I always wish to give a respectful greeting to KaffeBox, which allows us to get together with coffee from all over Scandinavia so that we can see how we roast differently and at the same time give us the best coffee from there. As a Swede, I hope we support our wonderful neighbors and continue to subscribe.
Apart from these two, I strongly believe in the coffee from Ethiopia, it might deliver the best of these bags!
