There was a long while ago I tried them out, last time it didn’t taste as I had hoped. This subscription service also has the option of one-off buys, so I did just that.
The reason why I tried them again after a disappointing experience is that sometimes it’s a bad batch, so after reading recommendations that this caffeine-free coffee is actually really good made me want it even more. I like to drink coffee at all times, but I only like around two different caffeine-free specialty coffee so It’s nice with another coffee that I can try out.
I often feel that good coffee is good when it’s hot and when it’s not, I don’t really feel something for this coffee and it doesn’t have anything to do with it being caffeine free, it has just not hit the flavor development, even after 10-15 days. The flavors I could feel was grape and maybe cacao, let’s read what they’ve written on their bag:
“chocolate, honey, orange”
First I’ll cup the coffee which means that I’ll try to find different flavors in the coffee. Just to give you as a reader a hint of understanding of what I go through. I’ll also write how to do a cupping. You can read that below:
When I do a cupping I do the following:
1) Grind 11 g coffee in a medium-coarse grind, I’ll remember the coffee’s fragrances now when it is dry to compare with the let grounds later.
2) Pour 180 g of water at a temperature of 93 degrees Celsius.
3) Let it sit for 4 minutes.
4) Stir 3 times and try to find as many scents.
5) Remove all foam that’s formed on the top.
6) Wait for 6 minutes so the coffee cools down and to let the coffee grounds fall down to the bottom, then I’ll take my first slurp with a deep spoon. The idea is that you will spray the coffee inside your mouth. That way you will be able to easily recognize the tones contained in the coffee.
7) Wait for 6 minutes and do the same procedure, the reason behind step 7 is that it’s the most optimal time for tasting coffee. If the coffee is still good after 12-15 minutes, then it is a high-quality coffee!
Cupping notes:
Bitter, cacao, peat, and grape.
Review:
It’s actually the same experience as last time:
“The coffee is unfortunately not good enough for me, the price is quite good and maybe I should’ve known better. The coffee costs 9 euro per bag with shipping included, which is kinda low. It’s like the coffee beans you can buy from the grocery store.
I would not recommend you to try this since it’s kinda pricey for its quality. However, it’s a very nice thought. That you get the bag in your mailbox without any additional packaging.”
I don’t know if I could re-write it any better to be honest. It’s just something that’s off, maybe it got open in the mail since it arrives in the same bag as you see in the picture without anything shielding it at all.
Rating: 4.0/10
