My Favorite Semlas in Örebro – A Guide for Every Taste
I’ve tried my way through a variety of semlas in Örebro, and now it’s time to share my top recommendations! None of these semlas contain the traditional almond paste – instead, they offer unique and upgraded versions that truly stand out. When a good friend asked me which semla he should buy, I was completely stumped – I couldn’t pick just one favorite! But here are three different semlas that I highly recommend, depending on what you’re in the mood for.
Classic with a Sweeter Twist – @stadstradgardenorebro
The left image showcases a semla from @stadstradgardenorebro. This one stays true to the classic style but features a slightly sweeter almond paste. It tastes as if finely ground caramelized almonds have been mixed in, creating a deep, balanced sweetness that doesn’t overpower. The café itself is a gem, located right in Stadsparken in Örebro, and they also serve fantastic buns and other treats. Definitely worth a visit!
Fruity and Chocolatey – @kaffepralin
The top right image presents a semla from @kaffepralin. This one is non-traditional but still maintains the classic shape. It offers a delightful twist with raspberry-infused whipped cream and white chocolate blended into the almond paste. The result is a fruity, chocolatey experience that feels both light and indulgent. The café itself is absolutely charming, almost like a Parisian chocolate shop straight out of a movie – a must-visit!
Classic with an Extra Touch – @sonjas_kaffebar_fikaverkstad
The bottom right image features a semla from @sonjas_kaffebar_fikaverkstad. This is a more traditional semla but with a little twist: the almond paste is whipped, making it extra light and airy. The bun has a great texture with a slightly caramelized crust and is relatively unsweetened, which I personally love. Besides serving amazing semlas with top-tier whipped cream, Sonjas also offers a fantastic selection of baked goods, from bread to pastries – a perfect spot for a fika!
