The Coffeevine September 17 Box

The Coffeevine is a subscription service for coffee, they deliver beans from coffee roasters all over the world. An exciting concept for those who want to try out coffee from foreign roasteries. We will go through the September 17 box separately:

1. Neues Schwarz, Nuremberg, Germany.
Ethiopian, Rocko Mountain, Yirgacheffe, 1950 – 2150 meters above sea level. Natural process. Recipe:17g coffee (grind setting at 16B on Baratza Sette 270, a bit finer than medium)
225g of filtered water
40g bloom 30-35 seconds
92 degrees Celsius1) 40g bloom for 30-35 seconds, stir with a bamboo patch to get all coffee moistened.
2) 225g water in a circular flow (this includes 40g blooming). You start the flow from inside and end circularly on the edge. Slowly pour, so the total brew time lands in 1 minute and 50 – 55 seconds. Result: A sweet coffee with hints of tropical fruits.

2. Caffenation, Antwerp, Germany.Kenya, Weithaga AA, Muranga, 1600 – 1800 meters above sea level. Washed process. Recipe:17g coffee (grind setting at 19B on Baratza Sette 270, medium)

2) 225g water in a circular flow (this includes 40g water blooming). You exit the flow from inside and end circularly on the edge. This will slow you down so that a total brewing time lands in 1 minute and 45 – 50 seconds.Result: This stands out from the other bags. A much more sour coffee, not so bad that it gets frightful, but enough for it to be labeled. Perfect coffee for filter.

3. JB Kaffee, Dachau, Germany.
Ethiopian, Kochere, Yirgacheffe, 2000 – 2200 meters above sea level. Washed process. Recipe:17g coffee (grind setting at 17B on Baratza Sette 270, a bit finer than medium)
225g of filtered water
40g bloom 35 seconds
94 degrees Celsius1) 40g blossom for 35 seconds, stir with a bamboo patch to get all coffee moistened.
2) 225g water in a circular flow (this includes 40g water blooming). You exit the flow from inside and end circularly on the edge. This will slow you down so that a total brewing time lands in 1 minute and 55 seconds to 2 minutes. Result: Fruity, musty, sweet and not at all acidic.

Conclusion:
Great coffee cups from all three roasteries, but No.2 is the one who wins for me in this September 17 box. So good that it’s gonna be fresh (in the fairness of coffee).
